EMORY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW: BARTON CHILD LAW AND POLICY CENTER

  • Protected the legal rights of 13,000 children involved with the child welfare, juvenile court, and education systems by conducting 50-state surveys and legal research and drafting fact sheets and legislative analyses

  • Supported Georgia's Department of Family and Children Services –DFCS– meeting federal funding requirements for sex trafficking interventions by drafting fact sheets and standing next to the governor as bills were signed into law

  • Communicated complex legislative and policy findings by presenting memos, charts, among other training materials to clients, lobbyists, legislators, among other stakeholders 

  • Collaborated with child advocacy agency representatives, met with state legislators in their offices, Capital days, committee hearings and meetings,  and “off the ropes” to push the Barton Center’s advocacy agendas.

GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

  • Conducted legal research, policy analyses, among other educational research having state ans
    nationwide effect

  • Increased the operational, academic, and financial compliance of 30 public schools by updating governance
    training materials administered to 50 school leaders —per survey results analysis

  • Researched and shared funding calculations of Georgia’s 180 counties and school districts to determine
    funding for districts within the lowest 5% resulting in increases in public school funding --by $80 million

  • Served as a member of a governor-appointed task force and determined measurements 50 states use to hold
    virtual public schools academically accountable

  • Utilized the K-12 funding formula to determine funding summaries for 15 state charter schools

  • Determined whether 30 SCSC schools met academic, operational, and financial standards for charter renewal
    contracts —per the SCSC’s Comprehensive Performance Framework (CPF)

  • Gathered qualitative and quantitative data and drafted memos addressed to the SCSC Director of Research andAccountability, Chief Operations Officer, and Financial Manager

GWINNETT COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Interrelated English Teacher

  • Increased the number of students with disabilities (SWDs) earning As, Bs, and Cs by 65%

  • Co-created a Multicultural Literature & Composition course –aligning with district school improvement and equity plan

  • Maintains a 100% legal compliance track record by training new special education teachers, prepared 100 rising 9th graders hybrid or virtual learners for in-person learning by teaching study skills

  • Improves reading outcomes for over 6,000 students by creating and implementing student independent reading programs where students read high-interest books

  • Motivates 22 teachers to adopt and buy-in to data-driven, equitable, and culturally responsive grading and discipline practices by leading discussions at Department meetings

  • Develops and implements restorative justice discipline practices impacting 2,500 students’ attendance

  • Develops, implements, and presents staff development to 25 - 150 teachers
